How to beat the Prophet

Reduce the Prophet's damage or Guard the rank marked by Prognostication, then keep hitting rank 4. He marks one or two positions at the start of a round and drops Rubble of Ruin on those positions at the end, so healing alone is not the plan: prevent or redirect the spike before it lands.

Bring back-rank damage. Destroy pews only when the party can survive a longer fight and wants the extra gold; otherwise reach past them and kill the Prophet.

Choose damage debuffs or Guard

The damage-debuff plan stacks effects such as Occultist's Weakening Curse and Leper's Intimidate. Because the Prophet has one normal action per round, repeated debuffs remain efficient while the party attacks, heals, or works through pews. Arbalest or Musketeer adds back-rank pressure and accuracy/critical debuffs.

The Guard plan uses Man-at-Arms to cover a hero standing in a marked rank and stack PROT. If both the guarder and guarded hero occupy marked ranks, both can still be hit, so move one before the Rubble resolves when the skill bar permits.

Recommended party frameworks

A safe debuff shell is Arbalest or Musketeer, Occultist, Leper, plus a flexible fourth hero with healing, Guard, or rank-4 damage. A Guard shell can use Vestal, Man-at-Arms, Crusader, and Leper: it is slower but has recovery and protection for a pew-clear route.

Do not copy the names without the required skills. The party needs two answers to a marked rank in case one hero is Stunned, plus enough reach to damage the Prophet before all three pews are destroyed.

Decide whether the pews are worth it

The three pews block the Prophet and award valuable loot when destroyed; remaining pews disappear when he dies. Breaking all of them can add up to 7,500 Gold, but every extra round creates another Rubble check and more stress or Blight pressure.

For a first clear, attack through the pews only as much as the chosen heroes require. For a money run with strong mitigation, lower the pews without immediately removing all of them, keep the Prophet in rank 4 for back-rank debuffs, then finish the pews when the party is stable.

Turn plan and provisions

At round start, identify the marked positions. Apply damage reduction or Guard, move a fragile hero if that avoids a double mark, and use remaining actions for rank-4 damage. After Rubble, lift any hero from Death's Door before damage-over-time can resolve.

Bring Holy Water for resistance and Antivenom for Fulminate Blight. Stun resistance, PROT, and reliable healing matter more than a fourth pure damage trinket. Preserve enough supplies for the Ruins route to the boss rather than planning only for the room itself.

Runaway and Duelist after Fire's Edge

Runaway reaches the back from the front half with Firefly; Retail 27987 shortens its Burn-decay debuff to one round while raising her HP curve to 22–38. She fits only if the party already covers Rubble mitigation and can keep her in a legal attacking rank.

Duelist can reach rank 4 with Coup de Grâce and recover from movement, while Retail 27987 improves her defensive tools. Neither hero replaces Guard or damage reduction; treat their reach as the damage slot after the survival plan is complete.

Sources and editorial boundary

Rank marking, Rubble timing, pew rewards, defenses, and actions are checked against the maintained Prophet data page. The two party frameworks and pew decision are this wiki's conditional recommendations built from those encounter mechanics.
